National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year on 25 January in India to encourage the country’s voters to participate in the electoral process. This year the 14th edition is being celebrated.

History and Importance:
To encourage more young voters to participate in the electoral process, the first National Voters’ Day was celebrated on January 25, 2011, where the central government led by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved a proposal of the Law Ministry. this effect. At that time, former Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni had said that new voters who have attained the age of 18 years are showing less interest in registering their names in the voter list.

To address this issue, the Election Commission decided to launch a nationwide effort to identify all eligible voters who have reached the age of 18 years on January 1 each year at all polling stations across India. Such voters will be enrolled and given Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) on 25 January every year.

Dedicated to the voters, the theme of NVD 2024 – ‘Nothing like voting, I definitely vote’ is a continuation of last year’s theme. President of India Draupadi Murmu will be the chief guest at the national function being organized by the Election Commission of India in New Delhi this year and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal will grace the function.
